Term Definition

Part of the general management system that comprises the organizational structure, the planning activities, responsibilities, procedures, processes and resources used to elaborate and implement the environmental policy and manage its own environmental aspects (UNI EN ISO 14001:2004).


[Total Suspended Solids] The term Total Suspended Solids comprises all undissolved substances that are present in a water sample to be analysed and that, when the sample is subjected to filtration, are withheld by a diaphragm filter with a given mesh size (APAT – Environmental Protection and Technical Service Agency).

Sustainable development is not a predetermined state of harmony but a process of change in which the exploitation of resources, orientation of investments and institutional changes are made compatible with future needs as well as those of the present (World Commission on Environment and Development, Our common future, Oxford University Press, 1987).
